"Johann Heinrich Joachim (Henry) Bockmann was born in Hope on the 21st April 1860. He was the eldest son of Johann Friedrich Christian (Fred) Bockmann who owned the Rosedale property. The Rosedale farm was cut over in December 1886, it was then burnt over and grassed in May 1887. Further bush was fell and burnt in September the lot being fenced with paling fences. In 1888 Henry took over his father's Rosedale holdings. He married on the 15th May 1890 in Nelson to Alvena Eleanora Elizabeth (Vena) Rose, daughter of Henry Rose who lived at the top of Roses Road. She was born in 1869 in Upper Moutere. Vena died on 16th January 1931 in Upper Moutere and Henry died on the 28th November 1942 in Nelson. Both are buried in St Paul's Cemetery, Upper Moutere.
