A memorial service for Avery Roser of Bellingham was held at 2 p.m. April 8 at First Congregational Church. A private burial was held March 24 in Woodlawn Cemetery in Ferndale.
Mr. Roser died Thursday, March 23, 2000, at Summit Place, he was 100. Born August 9, 1899 to Samuel and Jennie (Noel) Avery in Topeka, Kansas. He moved to Whatcom County 29 years ago. He was a veteran of World War I.
In 1924, he married Martha Patterson. She died in 1987.
Mr. Roser worked for JC Penny Co Inc. for 28 years before buying his own store in 1943.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Lanice Gardner, sister Carol Hercher and brothers Edgar, Harvey and Walter Roser.
Survivors include daughters Arla Fowler of Bellingham and Trilby McCulloch of Stockton, Calif.; sisters Bernice Austin and Helen Peterson; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
