Biography

Martha 'Susan' Ross was born on August 27, 1851 in Harrisonville, Shelby County, Kentucky.^[1] She was the daughter of Santford Ross and Mary Brooks. She was the 5th child of 9 children. Susan was 8 yearsold living with her parents in Shelby, Kentucky (Harrisonville Post Office) along with her siblilngs Vardaman-18, Absalom-15, Thurman-11, Virgil-6, Delia-4, and Presley 1, in 1960. ^[2]

She Married Jerome Burke Brooks on March 12, 1872 in Shelby County, Kentucky.^[3] They had 7 children.^[3]

Jerome was a Farmer and they lived on their farm in Green Township Wapello, Iowa in 1880; ^[8] They were living in Adams, Wapello, Iowa in 1900, and their son's Selman and Ross were still in the houshold.^[3] Residence (1910) Adams, Wapello, Iowa, ^[9]

She died March 1, 1919 in Ottumwa, Wapello County, Iowa, at the age of 67, and was buried in the Brooks Cemetery.^[1]
