MARRIAGE NOTICE. ROSS—POLINELLI.—On April 12, at St. John's Church Fremantle, by the Rev. Canon Moore, Archibald, third son of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Ross, of Rook Ferry, Cheshire, to Violet, adopted daughter of Councillor and Mrs. R. B. Carter.

(1943). PERSONAL. Mrs. V. M. Ross, who spent her girlhood on the goldfields, is visiting her aunt, Nurse Ballinswella, at present. Mrs. Ross has spent the past 20 years in Java, where, six weeks prior to the island falling into the hands of the Japanese, her husband was appointed by the foreign office, vice-consul of Tjila-jap, the then only open port for Java. He did splendid work getting British subjects away on any ships available. Mr. and Mrs. Ross left on the last ship to leave that port on the evening of March 1. By then the island was being cut in two by the Japanese. A few days later 100 enemy planes bombed the town.
