Biography

Christina (Ross) Nourse was born in Scotland.

Christina Ross was born about 1855, daughter of Peter Ross and Mary Salmean, in the village of Borve on the Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides which is part of Inverness-shire, Scotland. ^[1]

Christina emigrated as an infant with her father Peter Ross, mother Mary, and brother John on the ship Royal Albert which arrived in South Australia on 1 Dec 1855. Also on the same voyage was:

• her mother's sister Sally Salmean / Salmon,
• her father's sister Mary Macdonald, her husband and four children
• her father's brother Angus Ross and his wife Christina

Christina began a relationship John Nourse (1844-1909) while he was still married to his first wife. Christina and John's children before their marriage were:

• William, born 30 May 1876 ^[3]
• John Angus (1878-1956) ^[4]
• George Brinkworth, born 1880 in Spalding.^[5]

Christina married John on 31 Aug 1880 at Wesleyan Parsonage in Kooringa, South Australia. ^[6]

John and Christina had two more children after they were married:

• James Peter, born 1882 in Gulnare^[7]
• Albert Bertie, born 1883 in Burra Mine^[8]

John and at least some of the family moved to New South Wales in about 1893.

Christina died aged 46 on 25 Apr 1905 at Pirie-street in Adelaide, South Australia. ^[9]
