Mary was born about 1849, probably in Gransha, Islandmagee, County Antrim, Ireland.
In 1877 she married Robert Ross in Larne Methodist Church, County Antrim. He was a 27 year old mariner living in Ballymoney, Islandmagee and she was 28 years of age living in Gransha, also in Islandmagee. The witnesses were James Ross and Mary Jane Niblock.[1]
In 1901 the couple are living with 5 of their children in Ballymoney and Robert is now a farmer.[2] In 1911 they are still living in Ballymoney with 3 of their children. All 7 of their children are still alive.[3]
Mary Jane passed away on July 24th, 1928, probably in Ballymoney, Islandmagee. Note that Mary Jane's Gravestone records her passing as 26th July. [4] She is interred in St. John's Church of Ireland Graveyard, Islandmagee.[5]

Erected by Robert Ross in memory of his wife Mary Jane Ross, who died 26th July 1928, aged 79 years. Also their son John, killed in action near Arras 28th March 1918, aged 35 years. The above named Robert Ross died 23rd January 1931, aged 81 years. Their son Thomas, died 5th Dec. 1955, aged 62 years. Their daughter Catherine Montgomery, died 20th Jan. 1970, aged 80 years.
