OBITUARY. The death took place at his residence, 153 Macquarie-street North, yesterday Of Dr. Elsey Fairfax Ross, a prominent Sydney practitioner. Dr. Ross had been troubled with a weak heart, and about six months ago certain complications set In which resulted fatally early yesterday morning. The deceased was a son of Mr. J. Grafton Ross (formerly connected with the Colonial Sugar Company), and a nephew of Sir James Fairfax. He received his medical education at the University College Hospital, London, and took the degrees of M.R.C.S. and L.R.C.P. in 1884. He afterwards went to Brussels, where he obtained the degree of M.D. In his student's days he filled the position of house surgeon at the University College Hospital to the late Dr. William Fox. He returned to Australia in 1884. with Dr. Chisholm (also of Macquarie-street), and shortly afterwards commenced practice in Sydney. He was appointed hon. physician Lo St. Vincent's Hospital, and. at the time of his death was senior hon. physician of that Institution. He was also hon. surgeon at the Lewisham Hospital for Diseases of Women and Children. The late Dr. Ross, who was only 45 years of age at the time of his death, leaves a widow and three sons. His father has for many years past resided in England.

OBITUARY. THE LATE DR. E. FAIRFAX ROSS. We regret to have to announce the death of Dr. Elsey Fairfax Ross, which took place early yesterday morning at his residence, Macquarie-street North, Sydney, after an illness of about seven months' duration. Dr. Ross was the son of Mr. J. Grafton Ross, formerly manager of the Colonial Sugar Refining Company, and was 45 years of age. He was for a time at school in Goulburn with Mr. S. H. Belcher, at Garoongang. He proceeded to England to pursue his medical course, and had a successful career. He studied medicine at University College Hospital, London, and took the M.R.C.S. and L.R.C.P. degrees, London, in 1881. Later Dr Ross went to Brussels, where he took the degree of M.D. He was house physician at University College Hospital, London, under the late Dr. Wilson Fox, being also clinical assistant at the Royal London Ophthalmic Hospital, Moorefields. For the past 18 years the late Dr. Ross had been a conspicuous figure in Sydney medical circles. Shortly after his return from Europe, at the end of 1884, he was appointed honorary physician to St. Vincent's Hospital, and at the time of his death was senior honorary physician to that institution. He was also an honorary surgeon to the Lewisham Hospital for Diseases of Women and Children. It was only natural that, being of a kindly and sympathetic nature, his patients should entertain towards him feelings of the deepest regard. As a man his friendship was valued for its unswerving loyalty, whilst all through life his actions were governed by the strictest principles of honour. Dr. Ross has left a widow and three sons. He was a grandson of the late Hon. John Fairfax, M. L.C. The funeral will move from 153 Macquarie-Street North at 1.15 p.m. to-day for St. James' Church, where a short service will be held, and then the cortege will proceed to the Mortuary Station. The remains of the late doctor will be laid to rest in the Rookwood Cemetery.
