Jane was born on 25 Mar 1787 in Chickamauga, Cherokee Nation to Daniel and Mary McDonald Ross. She married Joseph Coody in June 1805. The marriage was performed by the Moravian missionary Jacob Wohlfahrt at the home of Daniel Ross, mentioned in the Spring Place Diaries. The couple had at least nine children. On 1 Feb 1818, Jane joined the Brainerd Church.
Around 1825, the family moved to Rossville, Cherokee Nation, near her brother John's where the Coody's operated a Tanyard. Jane died on 12 Sep 1844 in Fort Gibson, Indian Territory. She was 57.
