Bathsheba Ruggles Spooner was hanged in 1778 at thirty-two years old, along with three soldiers for killing her husband, Joshua Spooner. She was carrying the child of her 16 year old paramour Ezra Ross, also hanged along with the two other men, James Buchanan and William Brooks; all four were convicted of the murder of Spooner. She was the first woman to be executed in the United States by Americans rather than the British.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Ezra by comparing test results with other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Ezra:
Ezra and Timothy are full brothers, not half, both the sons of Jabez and Johanna. While I don't think we have definite proof of Johanna's maiden name, most sources believe it was Kneeland, as is shown for Timothy. Jabez and Johanna named their 6th child Kneeland Ross. It seems unlikely they would have done so if Johanna's maiden name wasn't Kneeland. Also, I believe there are statements from the time indicating that Jabez's first and second wives were related. His first wife was definitely Lydia Kneeland.
