John Philip Rosser, passed away on August 16, 2013 at his home in Ashburn, Virginia. He was born in Columbus, Ohio on September 25, 1927 to John Oehler Rosser and Letha Helen (nee Birch). He lived in Columbus, OH from his birth through his graduation from Ohio State University with a degree in Chemical Engineering.
John went to Midway Elementary School, Indianola Junior High, North High School, and Ohio State University, all in Columbus, OH. He was in the US Navy from June 1945 to July 1946 where he worked at several common labor jobs, such as constructing concrete runways at port Columbus Airport and freight handler at C&O railroad freight house. John went west in 1948 in a 1933 Chevy Sedan with three friends - all the way to Los Angles - including Salt Lake City and Yellowstone National Park. They ran out of money in Salt Lake City and had to work on the railroad section gang for a month to get paid enough to get home.
After graduating from Ohio State University with a chemical engineering degree in 1949, John took his first job with Columbia Southern Chem Corp in Barberton, OH (June 1949 to December 1953), then worked for Mallincrodt Chemical Works in St. Louis, MO (January 1954 to June 1959), then United Nuclear, Chemical Division in Hematite, MO (June 1959 to June 1974), then United Nuclear, Scrap Recovery in Wood River Junction, RI (June 1974 to December 1978), then United Nuclear, Fuels Division in Uncasville, CT (January 1979 to June 1983), then UNC, Commercial Division in Norwich, CT (June 1983 to September 1989). John retired in 1989.
After graduation, John lived on N. Main St. in Hudson, OH then 432 Diagonal Rd. in Akron, OH then 530 E. Houston St. in Barberton, OH then Terwood Drive, St. Louis, MO then (till 1960) Ridge, Webster Groves, MO. John moved his family to 641 Fox Creek Ct., Crestwood, MO where they lived till August, 1974 when John moved to 8 Riverbend Drive, Mystic, CT. Then 3033 Middleton Way in Hendersonville, NC. Then 21085 Cardinal Pond Terrace #208 in Ashburn, VA.
He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years Nancy Tibbits Armstrong Rosser and is survived by his sons, William Gregg Rosser of Maeystown, Illinois and Thomas Edward Rosser of Bastrop, Texas; and his daughter, Lynn Rosser Bowdren of Fairfax Station, Virginia. He was an avid stamp collector, award winning needlepoint artist, gardener and a phenomenal husband, father, brother, grandfather of six and a great grandfather.
He was cremated and interred with his wife at Greenville Union Cemetery in Greenville, Ohio.
