OBITUARY. NOTED TRAP MAN PASSES. By "ITHACA".

SUDDEN death of Claude Rossiter, which occurred on Friday at the Heatherton grounds of the Victorian Gun Club Just before starting time, came as a great shock to those present. With his passing the sport has lost a devotee of no mean ability.

ALTHOUGH 69, he was still one of the best shots in the State and only a week earlier had won the main trophy event from a field of nearly 30 shooters. For many years he had farming interests in the Gippslaiid and Goulburn Valley districts but could always find time to attend a shooting match and it was rarely that he put up a bad shoot.

This is shown by the fact that he had more than 20 championships to his credit as well as a large collection of trophies won with gun and rifle.

In the field he was probably one of the finest shots Gippsland has ever produced and there are many including the writer who can look back with the greatest of pleasure with days spent with one of the finest and most unobtrusive little sportsmen ever to handle a pun.

Claude Rossiter always will be remembered by Victorian shooting men as a tough opponent but a thorough sportsman who could take a beating with a smile and be up again next day to give one.
