Biography

According to the parish register, Olga was born 7 November 1907 and baptized 9 November 1907. She always celebrated her birthday on 10 November, but the reason is not now known. Olga arrived in Canada at Halifax, Nova Scotia, on 2 April 1909. She and her mother, Theophilie Kitschler, were aboard the SS Corsican, which had left Liverpool on 25 March. They left for Radisson, Saskatchewan, by train, the same evening. ^[1]

Olga told a story that she had had the measles, so she and her mother had had to stay on the ship for an extra two weeks in Halifax. According to the passenger manifest of the Corsican, no passengers were detained in quarantine when Olga landed, so perhaps they had been detained in Liverpool, before leaving England, or perhaps before leaving Europe. Olga was only about 16 months old when she landed in Halifax, so perhaps her memory of the event was a bit foggy.
