The first professing Jew to be a member of the House of Lords. G.C.V.O.; P.C. A Lieut. for the City of London. A close friend of Disraeli. Married, Apr. 17, 1867, his cousin, Emma Louisa, dau. of Baron Mayer Carl de Rothschild, of Frankfort, a member of the German Parliament, and had issue. A great philanthropist and the generally acknowledged leader of the Jews throughout the world. Died Mar. 31, 1915. Father of Lionel W. (1887) and the above; brother of Alfred C. (1860) and Leopold L.
