Biography

According to Pearl Mary Segura, Marguerite Rougeau was born on 31 Aug 1760 in Mobile. She was baptized the following day at the Church of the Immaculate Conception. Her godparents were Pierre Rochon and Isabelle (Elizabeth) deMouy. [1]

Marguerite Rougeau, the daughter of Jean Baptiste Rougeau and his first wife, Marguerite Demouy, married Francois Ledoux on 23 December 1776 in Natchitoches, Louisiana.[2] According to a published source about the Ledoux family and cited in Rev. Hebert's CD of South Louisiana Records, her spouse was born 22 Oct 1755 and baptized on 5 Nov 1755 at St. Francis Church in Pointe Coupee and married on December 21st instead of December 23.[3]

Marguerite may have gone by the name Modesta as indicated in two church records; one of which refers to her as the wife of Francisco Le Doux.[4]
