Biography

Jeanne was probably born on May 15, 1731 and baptized Jeanne Francoise Roujot on June 13, 1731.[1] Her parents are listed as Francois Roujot and Marie Angelique Chartron.

Jeanne and Daniel Pain signed a marriage contract on March 5, 1748 in New Orleans.[2] A transcript of a translation of the marriage contract,[3] indicates that Jeanne, a native of New Orleans, was the minor daughter of Mr. Edme Francois Rougeot, an employee of the King's storehouse and of Angelique Chartron. Jeanne's parents, her sister and brother-in-law, called Mr. and Madame Ricard, and her brother Jean Baptiste were present there as witnesses on her behalf.

Almost six years after her husband's death, Widow Pain who signed her name as Jeane Rougot Widow Pain, declared that he had donated to his granddaughter, Miss Louize[sic] Pain a 26-year old female slave and her two children, age 8 and 2.[4] Jeanne Roujot ... She passed away in 1795 and was buried on 16 Nov 1795.[5]

Please see her husband's profile for a list of known children.
