When Joel Adelbert Rouse was born on September 26, 1892, in Little Falls, Minnesota, his father, Thomas, was 41 and his mother, Alice, was 35. He was only six years old when his mother died and 12 when his father died. He joined his older brothers in running teams of horses to North Dakota when he was just 13. He followed his brother to Montana and was farming there when he registered for the draft in 1917. He moved to Alaska and may have married Blanch J in 1925 in Alaska, according to descendants. In his WWII registration in 1942, he lives in Kodiak, works for himself and names Carl Mendell of Kodiak as his contact. He died on May 22, 1953, in Alaska at the age of 60.
