Note N31My Uncle Bob (my mother's older brother) was a Captain in the Highland Light Infantry , and was also in the Glasgow Highlanders. He received an MBE and a DSM, I am not sure whether the DSM was for the first world war. I don't know his date of birth but he was born in Moray (the son of Robert Rowan and Jessie McDonald), but he died on 16 September 1940. He was Robert Rowan. According to my mother, Bob was chosen as a model for the statue of a highlander at Beaumont Hamel which is close to the Belgium border.
