Biography

  • An item in Lithgow Mercury dated June 20, 1902 (Page 4) reads:
  • "At six o'clock on Wednesday evening a quiet wedding was celebrated in St. Paul's church by the Rev. R. J. Cameron. The principals were Mr. George Evans (of Marrangaroo) and Miss M. Rowe (daughter of Mr. Rowe, of Inch-street,

Lithgow). Mr. E. Hankiits stood as best man and Miss Blanche Rowe as chief bridesmaid.

  • There were many friends present to witness the ceremony, and congratulations were bestowed upon the happy couple from all sides."
  • An article in Lithgow Mercury. Friday, August 14, 1942 reads:
  • Late Mrs. G. Evans
  • Death in Sydney.
  • Resident of Lithgow and Marrangaroo for nearly 60 years, the death occurred last night in St. Vincent's Hospital, Sydney, of Mrs. Mauvel Evans, one of the town's best known residents, at the age of 62 years.
  • Born at Louth on the Darling river, the deceased came to this town at a very early age, residing here ever since. she had a large circle of friends throughout the district and was interested in anything that was for the welfare of those less fortunate than herself. she was ever ready to help in time of need, and her death will be sincerely regretted. Unfortunately her health had not been good of late, and she was taken to St. Vincent's from Lithgow on Tuesday by ambulance. Death however was unexpected.
  • In addition to Mr. Evans, the late Mrs. Evans leaves a family of six, two daughters and four sons. They are Mrs. Bennett, Mrs. Browning, George, David, Alf and Fred. Another daughter, Mrs. Hallam, died some years ago.
  • The funeral will be conducted to-morrow afternoon, to move from Matthew's and Lemon's funeral parlors for the Church of England portion of Bowenfels cemetery.
  • She was buried in Ang. 1-13B
