James William ROWE was born in Sydney 1829 and came to the Hunter Valley before 1852 when he married Bridget CARNEY. James died at Singleton 1884. After marrying James and Bridget lived at Broke a small village where he had a hotel called [The] Broke Inn, after selling the Inn they moved into Castlereagh St Singleton where he became the Nuisance Inspector and Bailiff on a salary of 26 pounds per annum with 1/2 share of the police fines.
