Biography

Pearl Marie Rowe was born 1919 in Bath County, Virginia, USA. She was the daughter of Emmett Franklin Rowe and Elvira Maude Venable. Her older siblings were:

Thelma was white, single, worked as a cashier for Rockingham Farm Bureau, born in Augusta County, daughter of Garnett and Pearl Rowe Stroop, and resided in Birdgewater. They were married by Paul Shifler, minister of the Presbyterian church. ^[4]

On 6 Jul 1965, her mother-in-law Maggie E Stroop (78) died in Harrisonburg. ^[10]

1970s

On 27 Jun 1970, her son Kenneth Ray Stroop (22) married Linda Sue Harlow (19) in Mount Solon, Augusta County. Kenneth was born 10 Sep 1947 in Virginia, white, single, high school graduate, resided at Route 1 in Bridgewater, and the son of Garnett and Pearl Rowe Stroop. Linda was born 25 Jan 1951 in Virginia, white, single, high school graduate, resided at Route 1 in Mount Solon, and the daughter of Waren J and Mary Reeves Harlow. They were married by James O McAvoy, ordained minister of the Moscow Church of the Brethren. ^[7]

On 14 Oct 1977, her husband Garnett Stroop (67) died on RFD #1 in Bridgewater, Rockingham County from a heart attack. He was white, married to Pearl Rowe Stroop, a retired farmer, not a veteran. He was born 11 Nov 1909 in Page County, Virginia and the son of William and Maggie Good Stroop. The informant of his death was his wife Mrs Pearl Rowe Stroop. W L Rosenberger Funeral Home provided services and he was buried at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens in Harrisonburg, Rockingham County. ^{[11] [12]}

On 8 Jan 2003, Pearl R Stroop (84) died at Harrisonburg Health and Rehabilitation Center in Harrisonburg. She was born 1918 in Bath County Virginia and the daughter of the late Emmette Rowe and Elvira Venable. She was buried at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens with her husband Garnett. ^[15]

Pearl Marie (Rowe) Stroop, 83, of Harrisonburg, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at Harrisonburg Health & Rehabilitation Center in Harrisonburg.

She was born in Bath County and was the daughter of the late Emmette and Elvira (Venable) Rowe.

She was a member of St. James United Methodist Church.

She was united in marriage on Dec. 26, 1936, to Garnett Stroop, who died on Oct. 14, 1977.

She is survived by her daughter and son in-law, Thelma (Stroop) and A. Ray Michael of Bridgewater; one son, Kenneth R. Stroop of Stuarts Draft, Va. Five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Donald Richard Stroop.

A memorial service will be conducted at St. James United Methodist Church at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, 2003, with the Rev. Robert L. Haley officiating. Friends may call at the home of her daughter, Thelma Michael, 316 N. Main St., Bridgewater, or the funeral home at any time.

Burial will be private at the Eastlawn Memorial Gardens in Harrisonburg.

She was a daughter of the late Noah and Sarah Price Good and was born Oct. 31, 1886 in Page County. She was the widow of W. M. Stroop. After her marriage, she lived at Linville and Pleasant Valley before moving to Weyers Cave 35 years ago. Mr. Stroop, a well-known farmer, died July 26, 1949. Mrs. Stroop was a member of Bethany Methodist Church at Burketown and was a life member of the WSCS at the Church. Surviving are nine children, Garnett Stroop of Bridgewater, Gilbert T. and Emmet C. Stroop, both of Harrisonburg, Floyd W. Stroop of Fishersville, Mrs. Melvin Kaump of Detroit, Mich., Mrs. Johnnie Barr of Verona and Mrs. Beverley Roller and Roy N. and Carson E. Stroop all of Weyers Cave. Also surviving are 21 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and five sisters, Mrs. Carrie Dinges, Mrs. Beulah Purham and Mrs. Bernice Wilson, all of Stanley, Mrs. Bertha Stroope of Luray and Mrs. Elizabeth Blosser of Weyers Cave. The funeral will be conducted 3 p.m. Thursday at Bethany Methodist Church by her pastor, the Rev. Norman Compton. Burial will be in the Naked Creek Cemetery. The body is at the Koontz and Lindsey Funeral Chapel at Weyers Cave where the family will receive friends 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. today. Relatives will meet at the Stroop home at 2:35 p.m. Thursday.
