Biography

Thankful was born in 1740. She was the daughter of Elnathan Rowley and Lydia Welles. She died after 1809.

Marriage

Thankful married Samuel Hills III (abt.1729-abt.1803) on 3 Mar 1768 in Colchester, New London, Connecticut. Together, they had six children:

  1. Sarah Hills 1766–
  2. Roxanna Hills 1768–1830
  3. Adino Hills (abt.1770-1850)
  4. Nathaniel Hills (1773-1855)
  5. Lydia Hills 1776–
  6. Elijah Hills 1782–1782

Death

She died after 1809 in Montgomery County, New York.

Records of Presbyterian Church, Bowman's Creek 1809-1861 page 47 Thankful Hills listed as deceased but no date given-- records of dismissal.

Subsequent land records reveal that her sons Adino and Nathaniel Hills sold the family homestead in Montgomery County and moved to Eagle, NY where they are recorded as among the earliest settlers of that part of NY.

Deed dated 2 May 1809 with Adoni (Adino sic) Hills and Chloe (Lord) his wife and Thankful Hills of the Town of Canojoharry County of Montgomery and State of New York- sold to Asa Kimbol for the sum of $1250 that tract of land known by the name Lyins Patent and is thje one Equal Half of Lot Number 4 in the 2nd division.. legal description-- containing 50 acres and 11 rods Property believe to be half of the homestead of Samuel Hills given by will to sons Nathaniel and Adino subject to rights of their mother Thankful (Rowley) Hills. Recorded 1 March 1809 Montgomery County Deeds Libre 11 page 394. [1]
