Biography

Harvey was born August 2, 1909, at Lot 4, Concession 10, Elizabethtown. He was the son of Samuel Rowsome and Martha Giffin.

He married Florence McBratney in 1947. From the Ottawa Citizen, Tuesday, August 12, 1947:

Pink gladioli and white phlox decorated St. John's United church, Brockville, for the wedding of Florence Mildred McBratney, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George A. McBratney, and Harvey Richard Rowsome, of Jellyby, Ont., son of Mrs. Samuel Rowsome and the late Mr. Rowsome. Rev. P.C. Lewis performed the ceremony and wedding music was played by Mrs. S. Jackson. The soloist was Mrs. William Lesurf.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride was attended by her sister, Mrs. D.J. Bass as matron of honour, and by Miss Laura Wilkie of Ottawa as bridesmaid. Miss Kathleen McBratney, niece of the bride, was flower girl. Mr. John William Jelly was best man and ushers were Mr. James Kilburn and Mr. Laurence McBratney.
The bride wore a wedding gown of white satin and net, fashioned with a sheer yoke, fitted bodice of brocaded satin, and a full double net skirt. Her fingertip veil was arranged from a velvet coronet and she carried a cascade bouquet of white roses.
After a reception at the home of Miss Ethel Manhard 92 Park Street, Brockville, Mr. and Mrs. Rowsome left on a trip to Regina, Calgary, Banff and Lake Louise. Going away the bride wore an aqua wool suit with brown accessories.
The bride has been a teacher in the Rockcliffe Public School for the past three years. Ottawa guests at the wedding were Miss Laura Wilkie, Miss Eva Bellamy, Miss Mary Bartlett and Mrs. Dyell.

Harvey and Florence had no children. They lived on the Rowsome family farm in Rocksprings where Harvey was born, and raised beef cattle and Suffolk sheep.

Harvey and Florence both passed away in 1999. They were buried at Oakland Cemetery, in Brockville, Ontario.
