Biography

Marie Madeleine Royer (1662 - 1743) aka Baugis - Beaugy.

Marie-Madeleine was baptised on February 20, 1662. She passed away in 1743.

The biological parents of Marie-Madeleine Royer were never married to each other. Her mother was pregnant before marrying Michel Baugis.

Both unmarried at the time, Jean Royer and Marie-Madeleine Dubois had an affair and conceived a child about May 1661 in Québec.

Marie-Madeleine Dubois married Michel Baugis (or Baugy) on October 19, 1661 in Québec.

Marie-Madeleine Dubois gave birth to a daughter, Marie-Madeleine, on February 7, 1662; she was baptized 13 days later on February 20, 1662. The baptismal record named the infant Marie-Madeleine, daughter of Jean Royer. It further states that she had received lay baptism (ondoyé) from Robert Giffard at birth. The mother's name was given as Marie-Madeleine Du Bois. No mention was made of Michel Baugis in the baptism record even though he was, at the time, the spouse of Marie-Madeleine Dubois.

Although baptized as Marie-Madeleine Royer she grew up in the household of Michel Baugis and Marie-Madeleine Dubois with 2 half-brothers and 4 half-sisters.

Her marriage record to Jacques Ménard dit Desaulniers shows her name as Marie-Madeleine Baugis, daughter of Michel Baugi and Madeleine Dubois.
