History of the Wabash District Baptist Association
The Wabash District Baptist Association was organized on the second Friday in July, 1809, by messengers from five pioneer churches in southwest Indiana, viz., Bethel (1806), Wabash, Salem (1808), Maria Creek (1809) and Patoka. It was the first Baptist Association in what is now the State of Indiana. The ministers among them, at first, were Elders Samuel Jones, Alexander Devin, James Martin, and licensed brethren Isaac McCoy, Stephen Strickland, and Jonathan Ruble. The Association grew rapidly, as new churches were organized, for the first three years, but some were scattered by danger from the Indians during the War of 1812. These churches were established on principles typical of Baptist beliefs prior to the introduction of the mission system.
Was the executor of his father's will.
Jonathan apparently lived near Louisville, Kentucky and had returned to Pennsylvania to help settle his father's estate. He stopped in Ohio at his brother David's where he died. While he was gone, Hannah was preparing the house for a move to Indiana where Jonathan was going to have be a minister.
The probate proceedings for Jonthan started December 24, 1811 in Knox County, Indiana. At the first court proceeding on that date, the widow Hannah Ruble and William Poke, a representative of the probate court, were appointed as administrators of the estate of the deceased Jonathan Ruble to be completed by June 24, 1812. The inventory was actually complete January 7, 1812 and a public auction washeld the next day.
The final settlements on Jonathan's estate was October 6, 1814, at which time a payment was made to a Thomas McClure, noted as guardian of Jacob Ruble and Jonathan Ruble.
