His Original Burial Place
THE HENRY BULLETIN, Fri., Feb. 15th, 1923, p. 1, cols. 1 & 2 and p. 5, col. 3: (long series of articles, edited) Particulars of the tragic death of young Benjamin Stevens Rucker, son of Col. and Mrs. Pannill Rucker, announcement of which came as a shock to relatives and friends here Tuesday morning, are contained in the several Associated Press despatches from Richmond which are reproduced below. It was thought by friends of the family here on the receipt of the news of his death that probably he would be brought to Martinsville, where he was born and reared, for the funeral and interment, but on inquiry it was ascertained that the funeral would take place in Richmond. Young Rucker had many friends here especially among the younger people, who deeply regret and were greatly shocked by his sudden and tragic death, and much sympathy has been expressed for the family in their bereavement.
Richmond, Feb. 13th - Arrangements for the funeral of B. Stevens Rucker, 23, originally from Martinsville, fatally injured in an automobile accident early this morning, will not be completed, it was said early this afternoon, until the arrival of his father, Col. Pannill Rucker, local tobacco broker, from New York, where he has been on a business trip for several days. The young man died in a police patrol en route to a hospital after having his skull crushed when he was pinned beneath his car when it turned turtle on Patterson Avenue early this morning. He was grandson of the late Geoge McDaniel Rucker, for many years a widely know merchant of Lynchburg. He was an alumnus of Washington and Lee University and was associated with his father in business. At the time of his death he was returning from the Country Club of Virginia with Miss Grace Barton Cuyler and Miss Josephine Buckner, New York, and Richard S. Paulet, Richmond lawyer. All four were attendants at the wedding last evening of Miss Helene Lamont Luce to Frank Lathane Montague, Jr., and were returning from a wedding reception at the club.
The Richmond Times Dispatch of the 14th, instant says: Funeral service for Benjamin Stevens Rucker, who was killed early yesterday morning when his car overturned on Patterson Avenue, near the Belt Line, will be held this afternoon from his home, 1801 Monument Avenue.
