Biography

Irene was born 3 June 1856 at Fort Union, New Mexico Territory, the second daughter of Gen. Daniel H. & Irene (Curtis) Rucker. Gen. Rucker was Asst Quartermaster US Army and a member of Gen. Sheridan's staff. All her life Irene had lived in Army circles.

Daniel H. Rucker 56 yrs, wife Irene 50 yrs, John A. 19 yrs, Irene 16 yrs, Sarah 14 yrs, Francis 9 yrs, resided in 1870 in Chicago, IL.^[1]

Irene married Gen. Philip H. "Litttle Phil" Sheridan 4 Jun 1875 at the home of her parents on Wabash Ave. in Chicago. She was half Gen. Sheridan's age.

4. Philip H. Jr. born 28 July 1880, a grad of West Point who died at age 37.

Mrs. Sheridan was a noted beauty and popular in society of Washington, D.C.

She died just blocks from the bronze statue of her husband in Washington, D.C. at age 83 and is buried at Arlington Cem, Arlington, VA
