Maya Rudolph is an American comedian, actor, and singer.[1]
Maya Khabira Rudolph was born in Gainesville, Florida on July 27th, 1972. She is the daughter of Lithuanian-Jewish composer Dick Rudolph and legendary singer-songwriter Minnie Riperton. Maya and her brother grew up in the Westwood neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. Her mother died of breast cancer two weeks before Maya's seventh birthday.[2][3]
Maya graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz with a photography degree. She was a part of the Groundlings comedy troupe in Los Angeles, California when she was scouted for Saturday Night Live. She began working on SNL at the end of the 1999-2000 season and was a cast member until November 2007, when her oldest daughter was two years old. She had many notable impressions on SNL, including Beyonce, Oprah, and Charo. Since leaving SNL she has acted in both television series and movies, perhaps best known for her role in the movie Bridesmaids.[3] She also has a production company, Animal Pictures, with her longtime friend Natasha Lyonne that has produced television series like Russian Doll and Poker Face.[4] Maya was a guest on the PBS show Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates, Jr. twice, exploring different parts of her family history.[2]
Maya has been in a relationship with director Paul Thomas Anderson since 2001 and they have four children together. Although they never married, they refer to each other as husband and wife.[3]
