Biography

A New Hampshire marriage certificate states that Allen S. Ruggles was married to Flora E. Elliot on April 9, 1884 in Dalton, Coos, New Hampshire. They were both 20 years old and it was a first marriage for both.^[1]

According to another New Hampshire marriage certificate Allen S. Ruggles was married to Flora Elliot on December 26, 1893 in Dalton, Coos, New Hampshire. He was 29, which implies that he was born in 1864. Flora was 30 and probably born 1863. The marriage took place in Dalton, Coos, New Hampshire and was the second marriage for both. It also states that his mother was Jane Thomas and his father Preston Ruggles and that Flora's mother was Lucy Somers and her father Marquis L. Elliot.^[2]

It appears that Allen and Flora married, divorced, and then married again.

The 1900 US Census shows Allen and Flora living in Dalton, Coos, New Hampshire, with three children: Lena, 16; Clyde, 14; and Edward, 12.^[3]

In 1910, he is widowed, living as a boarder in Dalton.^[4]

Allen died on May 23, 1919 in Whitefield, Coos, New Hampshire and is buried in the Johns River Cemetery in Dalton, together with his wife Flora.^[5]
