Biography
Elena was the mother of Cristóbal de Tapia and was with him in El Paso in 1692 in preparation for returning to New Mexico after the Exile.[1]
Research Notes
- Elena's parents are unknown. There is no evidence attaching her to Juan Ruíz de Cáceres (abt.1570-1660) and Isabel Baca (abt.1620-abt.1675).
- It is said that Elena was born about 1618, married to Juan de Tapia, and had three known children. There is no evidence supporting any of this, other than being the mother of Cristóbal de Tapia. It is possible that any records regarding her life were destroyed during the Rebellion and this may be all that can be found.
