Alice was born in 1869. She was the daughter of Joseph Rummler and Jenny Sittig.
The third child to be born in Dubuque was Alice, the
quietest of the eight children and the only one to remain
unmarried. As was expected of an unmarried woman in that
time, she lived with her brothers or sisters and helped with
the household and child-caring chores as need arose. Her
nieces and nephews remember her as a friend and story teller.
She is remembered as having said she was "never too busy to
tell a story". Whenever one of them lost a tooth Alice assured
them the "tooth fairy" would come during the night. In the
morning a piece of candy was always under the pillow. she
spent her last years with her sister Jenny in Winnetka and
died August 26, 1961 which was the day after her ninty second
birthday.
