Thomas Runsiman was baptized on 22 December 1728 in Dunbar Parish[1]. The baptismal register records: "Alexander Runsiman and Janet Hendrie his spouse had a son baptised, named Thomas: James Turnbull and James Allain Witnesses". The parents residence is not stated although it is conjectured to be the small village Meikle pinkerton, about 3 miles south of Dunbar, the residence where several of Thomas' siblings were born.
Thomas Runciman married Barabara Wallace on 21 September 1753 in Dunbar Parish[2]. The register records that they were "both in this Parish".
