He was dsp in Matabele rebellion in Zimbabwe which ran from 20th March 1896 when the Ndebele (Matabele) people revolted against the authority of the British South Africa Company and the Shona joined them in June 1896. It dragged on until 1897. He was killed 10 October 1897 (almost 30) and buried in a small military cemetery in the grounds of what was the Ruzawi Inn but now Ruzawi Preparatory School (Anglican co-ed) in Marondera (was Marandellas), Zimbabwe, a week or so before cease fire.
