Lydia Runnels was born in Texas. Her parents are unknown. She was born a slave and was a slave from the Runnels family, recorded in 186 Slave Schedule. In 1870 she did work as a domestic servant for Howell Washington Runnels. There are two younger children that could be hers, Lymus and Alexander. Her death and burial are unknown.

She was recorded (age 20) in a slave schedule in 1860 in Bowie, Texas, United States as a female enslaved person.[1]
