William Runyon was a Scot who emigrated from New Jersey to Harrison County, Virginia, where he started a family.[1]

William Runyon lost everything to Indians "who attacked and burned his dwelling in Virginia." [1]

Runyon moved on through Kentucky to Ohio, where he settled in Harlan Township in 1805, the year Ohio became a state. [1]
