John was born in 1770, son of Christian and Anna (Shallenberger) Rupp.
About 1794, John married Catharine Royer, daughter of Daniel and Catharine (Kemper) Royer. They had eight children:[1]

The family moved to Westminster, Carroll county, Maryland about 1795.
In 1835, Catharine passed away. About 1837, John remarried to Elizabeth Geiman, a widow.
John passed away in 1852.
Will of John Roop of Carroll County Maryland. Wife Elizabeth. Son-in-law Israel P. Haines (husband of deceased daughter Catherine) Their three youngest children (John, Joel, and Joseph Haines) as much as the older brothers and sisters have received. (John gets extra.) Daughter Catherine's six children now living, to make her share equal to what my son David has received. To each of the following of my children (Anne, Elizabeth, Susannah, Rebecca & John) as much as what my son David has received. The balance in seven equal shares to the six living children and to the heirs of Catharine. Executors sons David and John Roop. Signed 7 Feb 1850. Witnesses Jacob Mering, John Royer, Philip Boyle.
