Biography

John George was the youngest son of his father and first wife, Maria. He was the only one of four children to come to New Zealand (in 1843). After his father's death he married his father's second wife, Cecilia.

He joined the Hutt Militia, and served with distinction during the Maori Wars of 1845/46. He was subsequently awarded the Imperial Campaign Medal.

A new settlement began in the 1870's named Palmerston North which John and Cecilia became interested in. He became a well known and respected member of the community, taking an active part in local affairs.

John did marry a second time after Cecilia's death to Catherine Francis née Kusach.
