James was born in 1851 in Tolleshunt Major, Essex. He married Frances Wood in 1873.
James worked as an Agricultural Labourer. He passed away in 1929 at the age of 77 and was buried in Great Braxted churchyard between the water tank and the yew tree, no headstone.
