Biography

Born: Abraham Ross, born 12 May 1713, in Framingham, s/o Joseph & Prescilla Russ.[1]
Married: Abraham married Hannah Owen 25 Oct 1738 in Ashford, CT, by Rev. Mr. James Hale.[1]
Died: Before 22 Sept 1861. Witnesses swore to this will on this date.[2]

Abraham Russ made a will May 1761, stating that he was in health and getting ready to go into the army. He left his wife the use of one third of his estate during her life if she remain a widow. His will left his homelot to eldest son Azariah and son Abraham and left the "Robinson Lot" to youngest son Daniel and his daughters Priscilla, Amy, Esther, Elizabeth and Hannah. Probate notes begin 22 Sept 1761. Unfortunately the estate was declared insolvent.[2] The two lots (one with a house etc.) that Abraham owned were sold to pay his debts. The house lot was purchased by Ebenezer Russ,[3] presumably his brother, and perhaps the family were allowed to remain there.

Incorrect and incomplete list of children from the printed vital records: [4]

  1. Azariah b. June 19, 1739; m. Marcy Benjamin, May 21, 1761
  2. Abraham b Oct. 29, 1741; d. Jan. 6, 1741/2;
  3. Hannah (twin) b. Feb. 23, 1742/3; deceased 15 May 1756.
  4. Priscilla (twin) b. Feb. 23, 1742/3;
  5. Elizabeth b. Aug. 19, 1743
  6. Abraham b. May 29, 1745
  7. Elezebeth b. Mar. 29, 1747; d. Aug. 19, 1753
  8. Amy b. June 10, 1749
  9. Esther mentioned in her father's will. b. c. 1753 (placed in the gap)
  10. Daniel b Jan. 21, 1756

Corrected list from original vital records and will of Abraham.[5]

  1. Azariah b. June 19, 1739; m. Marcy Benjamin, May 21, 1761 (vol 1 p. 66, vol 3 p. 70
  2. Abraham b Oct. 29, 1741; d. Jan. 6, 1741/2 (vol 1 p. 66)
  3. Hannah (twin) b. Feb. 23, 1742/3; deceased 15 May 1756. (vol 1 p. 66, vol 1. p. 95.)[6]
  4. Priscilla (twin) b. Feb. 23, 1742/3; (vol 1 p. 66)
  5. Abraham b. May 29, 1745; (vol 1 p. 66)
  6. Elezebeth b. Mar. 29, 1747; d. Aug. 19, 1753. (vol 1 p. 66)
  7. Amy b. June 10, 1749 (vol 1 p. 66)
  8. Esther born say 1751. Not recorded in the vital records named in her father's will. If the daughters were listed oldest to youngest which is the common way of listing them Esther would have been born between Amy and the 2nd Elizabeth.
  9. Elizabeth b. August 19, 1753 (vol 1 p. 66) This is the same day as the first Elizabeth died. The dates are questionable, which is why they have been misinterpreted. After having looked at dozens of pages with 4s and 5s, I am 99% certain that both dates are the same. This allows this Elizabeth to be named in Abraham's will.
  10. Daniel b Jan. 21, 1756. [7]
  11. Hannah, The last daughter mentioned in her father's will. The first Hannah having died, a second Hannah needs to be born. She might be older than Daniel or younger.
Abraham's children 1739-1753
Hannah's 1756 death.
Daniel Russ 1756 birth.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Abraham by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Abraham:
