Biography

William Russell was born about 1735, in Virginia. He is thought to have migrated from Prince George's county, Maryland to North Carolina with Samuel Scott [1] and Mary (Jones) Scott. William married their daughter (some say Samuel's sister) Rachel Scott. Children of William and Mary may include:

  • Mary Russell, born circa 1779, married John Turnbill on November 23, 1793
  • Sarah Russell, born circa 1781 married Etheldred Fortner

According to his Find A Grave memorial, William was born 1735, in Virginia, died in Carter County, Tennessee in 1820, and is buried in the Mulberry Creek Cemetery, in Wilkes county, North Carolina. [3]

The grand Jurors for the county and State aforesaid on their oaths do present and say that, Dread Fortner, Archibald Mitchell, Solomon Fortner John Russell, William Russell, and Elijah Russell are all Yeomen, being persons evilly and wickedly designing and of malignant dispositions did on the fifth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and two within the county and state aforesaid with force and arms viciously, riotously and unlawfully meet and assemble themselves together, for the purpose and with the intention of disturbing and breaking the peace,and being assembled and met together on the day and year aforesaid wit h in the county and state aforesaid with force and arms assault a certain Samue l Lowe and him the said Samuel did abuse evilly, treat against the peace and [against] the state...

Some questions about this William, I believe he is William III and his brothers John Elijah----Dread Fortner is the brother-in law to these Russells
