Emma Russell, the daughter of Edward and Ann Russell,[1] was born in Windsor, Berkshire, England in the summer of 1852.[2] Her family emigrated to Canada and in 1871 she is recorded in the census living in Montreal with her father and sister Elizabeth.[3] She married photographer John George Topley and they had a daughter, Annie May.[4]
Emma died of consumption in 1879 and was buried at Beechwood Cemetery, Ottawa.[5]
