Marion Russell or Russel was born in Whitburn, Linlithgowshire, Scotland about the 5th of October, 1779, daughter of John Russel and Janet Inglis.[1]
Marion married Alexander Bryce at Whitburn, Linlithgowshire on or around the 30th of November, 1803.[2][3] Their children were born at Whitburn.
Marion appears at Whitburn without Alexander in the 1841 Census. Present were Marrion Russell (aged approximately 60), James Bryce (aged approx. 30) occupation farmer, William Bryce (aged approx 20) labourer, Alexander Bryce (18) labourer, Marrion Bryce (10) farm servant, and "male servant" John Mair (10).[4]
Their daughter Ann (born about 1813) and two of their sons, William (born 1820) and Alexander (born 1822), emigrated to New South Wales in the 1850s.
William's migration documents from his passage on the Humboldt in 1852 indicate that his parents Alexander and Marion were both deceased.[5]
Research Notes
Marion used her maiden name throughout her life (this was common in Scotland).
When her son Alexander went to New South Wales, he initially lived at Jamberoo with his uncle Russell, probably Marion's brother Ebenezer.
