Lewis was born 1901 in Wellington, NZ, the son of Charles Russell and Fanny Eliza Donaldson. ^{[1] [2]}

In 1926 aged 25 years, he married Minnie Stewart McNair ^[1] in NZ. ^[2]

Lewis passed away in 1968 in NZ aged 67 years ^{[1] [2]} and was cremated at the Taranaki Crematorium in New Plymouth, NZ.
