Essex would have been in the same general area that my Crafton family lived in early 1700s. Actually, King Wm. Co. Va.( primary county where Crafton's lived) may have once been part of Essex. Today, King Wm. Co. is bordered on the north by the narrow King and Queen Co. and then next to K & Q is Essex. So, it is highly possible that some of the Essex Moody family could have relocated northwest to Lunenburg and Charlotte counties. I'll need to do more research on the Moody's and see what comes up.

Thanks Greta for welcoming me. I couldn't help but notice your name "Moody". Craftons and Russells moved from King Wm. Co. Va. to Lunenburg Co. Va. By chance do you have ancestors in Lunenburg Co. as I have seen that name allied with families that Russell and Crafton had married into.
Thanks for your quick reply. Lunenburg, Charlotte and Mecklenburg Co.s.were all formed from one another. It wasn't until about 1740 that families began to settle in these counties in earnest. Many of those settling there were from King Wm.Co., King and Queen Co. and Hanover Co. (a simple western migration for such families). Your Va. Moody's may have lived in any, or all, of the counties mentioned at one time or the other. Maybe this is worth looking into by you, but not knowing your ancestry tree, I certainly can't say if it would be worth your time or not. So, maybe just something you tuck back into the back of your brain for future use. :)
