John Henry Russell was born 1837 in Claiborne County, Tennessee, USA. He later settled in Clay County then Jackson County. Kentucky. He worked as a farmer.

John married his wife, "Polly", Mary A. Reid (Reed). Their children were: William (who is listed here); Martha, Sarah, Jane, Dawson, Daniel (from 1880 census)

John enrolled as a private in 12-14-1863; mustered in 12-28-1863 Camp Nelson for 1 year, Co. K, 47th Ky Mtd Inf

John H. Russell passed away 18 Dec 1914 in Drip Rock, Jackson County, Kentucky, USA. John died of Tuberculosis (according to death certificate).

He was buried at Russell Flat Cemetery in Sand Springs, Jackson County, Kentucky, USA.
