Alvah was arrested and sent to Fort Mifflin in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania during the Civil War in what is known as the Fishing Creek Confederacy.
31 Aug 1864 he was arrested at his home in Fairmount Township, Luzerne county, Pennsylvania. He was then arrested again in October of 1864. He had a trial in November of 1864 and was sent to Fort Mifflin in December of 1864. Alvah was finally released from Fort Mifflin on 1 March 1865. Alvah was never really told what he was arrested for; they wanted to question him about the disloyalty of others. During the time that Alvah was in prison his family suffered a lot and nearly all of his crops were lost.
I do not know who Alvah's parents are. They could be Samuel and Susanna Cymer (Kymer) Rutan but I do not have any proof yet.
