2nd Lieutenant John Rutherford Sr.

John Rutherford was recommended for 2nd Lieutenant, 11/23/1779 in Captain Reagan's Company of Militia in Rockingham County, VA. On this same date his brothers Elliot Rutherford, Joseph Rutherford and Archibald Rutherford were also in Captain Reagan's Company.[1] This relationship was referred to in a correspondence between James Rutherford Brown of Cheshire, England and George Ernest Rutherford on December 7th, 1907.
