October 11, 1924 - August 30, 2014 John Allen Ryan died August 30, 2014 in San Antonio after a brief illness. He was born near Kenedy, Texas, on October 11, 1924, the son of William Cornelius and Alice (Harper) Ryan. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife of 49 years, Bobbie Marie (Lovick); an infant son, Mark Lovick Ryan; brothers, Claude Ernest, William Albert, Arthur Franklin, Milton Isaac and Morris Howell; and sisters, Callie Elizabeth Lott, Hattie Leola Stanfield, and Carrie Lois Roberts. He is survived by three daughters: Patricia Gayle Ryan, Nancy Kathleen Ryan and Julia Alice (Mrs. Bruce) Maurer; grandchildren: Justin Maurer, Kristin (Mrs. Giovanni) Delacqua, Ryan Maurer, Kathryn Maurer, Madeline McClure and Kathleen (Mrs. Samuel) Riley; his second wife, Willadene Myers Ryan, stepdaughters Kay Myers, Peggy (Mrs. Rudolph) Kasper, Carol Soules and Nancy Myers; stepson, John Myers; and step-grandchildren, Jennifer Kasper Aguillen, Shawn Kasper, Carol Lee (Mrs. Aigor) Riera, Sydney Claire Soules and Madeline Myers; and step-great grandson, Kaden Aguillen. He grew up in Coy City and graduated from Karnes City High School in 1941. He enlisted in the Navy in 1943 and served 39 months to the rank of Ensign. He earned his BS degree from U. of So. Cal. In 1946, the MBA from University of Texas in 1948, and PhD from University of Texas in 1957. He was a professor of business for 36 years, which included 16 years as head of the Marketing Dept. at Texas Tech and 12 years as Dean of the College of Business at Lamar University. He was a marketing consultant for 28 years. He retired in 1986. He served as a member, officer, or board member of many professional, business, charitable and community service organizations. He has been listed in WHO'S WHO IN AMERICA, WHO'S WHO IN, CONSULTING, WHO'S WHO IN AMERICAN HIGHER EDUCATION, INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARS DIRECTORY, OUTSTANDING EDUCATORS OF AMERICA, COMMUNITY LEADERS OF AMERICA, and several other similar directories. John has been many things to many people: patriarch, thinker, inventor, gardener, craftsman, gentle spirit and role model. Those who survive him feel honored for the time we shared his journey and felt the warmth of his love. A Celebration of Life will be held at Rhodes Funeral Home in Karnes City, Texas on October 25, 2014 at 11am with graveside services to follow at the Ryan family plot in the Kenedy Cemetery.
