James wrote his will on 26 Oct 1810. The will was recorded in Allegheny county on 23 Dec 1812.[5] Wife Rebecca was not listed in his 1810 will. It is likely she was deceased between 1800 and 1810. Children listed were: William Ryan (listed as eldest son), Ambrose Ryan (listed as second son, inherited the land on which James lived, entrusted to distribute legacies to his siblings within three years of James' death), eldest daughter Jane Cuppy, second eldest daughter Rebecca Carroll, third eldest daughter Isabella Large, younger daughters Sarah McDonald, Mattie Booher and Nancy Booher. He also left a young colt to grandson James Ryan, son of Ambrose Ryan.
