Martin Ryerson was born on November 5, 1755, in Jersey City, New Jersey to Joris Ryerson Jr and his wife, Marytje Dubois. He had five brothers and three sisters. He died on February 7, 1781, in Savannah, Georgia, at the age of 25.

A British Loyalist. Served as a Lieutenant in the 4th Battalion, New Jersey Volunteers (Loyalists),
