Col. Martin Ryerson was born in 1698 in New York to Judge Joris Ryerson and his wife, Anneken (Hannah) Schouten. He married Catherine Coxe in 1730 in Kingston, New York. They had nine children in 19 years. He died in 1767 in Flemington, New Jersey, at the age of 69.
He settled in Hunterdon County, near Flemington, New Jersey, on the south branch of the Raritan River, and not far from the estate of his brother-in-law, Gov. John Reading. Martin Ryerson was very prominent in judicial and military circles, as well as an ardent Christian and strong supporter of the Church. He was a surveyor of note and widely known as such. He was made Colonel in a regiment of Militia in the Colonial service of the King.[1][2]
At a Council held at Burlington, on Mar. 16, 1748, Martin Ryerson
was appointed a Judge of the Court of Common Pleas. He held judicial offices many years. He was Justice in 1748, and Judge until 1751.[1]

Martin was a Colonel with the Militia during the French-Indian War, but I can find no information as to whether he participated in the conflict or not. Can any one provide some insight?
